We Fight For What Is Yours

Leona Jochnowitz SSDI Attorney

Leona Jochnowitz

Leona D. Jochnowitz earned a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law and an M.A and a Ph.D. from the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany. She is a member of the New York and Oregon State Bars and the federal bars. Over the course of her career, she has focused on the rights of disabled persons, including persons with mental, intellectual, physical disabilities, and on addiction issues, mitigation and diagnosis. She worked on getting reasonable accommodations in housing and employment and the Americans with Disabilities Act. She currently focuses on administrative hearings in Social Security Disability. She has focused on poverty law assisting indigent persons in eviction defense, and as a Public Defender in Pendleton, Oregon. She did appeals, habeas corpus and post-conviction petitions for individuals. After receiving her PhD in Criminal Justice, she served as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Curry College in Milton, Massachusetts, and at other institutions where she taught courses to undergraduates and to police officers, on restorative justice, the death penalty, and wrongful convictions. She always encouraged research together with her students, and she has published research articles on mental disability and intellectual disability.

I want to leave a legacy in the legal profession which reflects my mentoring of clients and my strong advocacy on behalf of disabled and underserved persons. This support and advocacy will be passed forward to disabled and indigent persons, transferring these values of access to justice, and hopefully be passed forward to other needly persons in the legal system.
